DATE's Friday’s Workshops initiative started in 2003 fostering a number of workshops on different topics and attracting an audience of both researchers and designers.

The event offers a unique opportunity to present and discuss new and in-progress outcomes, as well as experiences and visions. The topics have been changing during the years, following the trend on current and emerging issues in design, test, software and EDA, taking the floor after the regular conference programme running throughout the week.

The Friday's Workshops programme for DATE 2018 is rich and includes seven workshop themes. These cover innovative ideas ranging from design automation to emerging memory solutions, from optical interconnect systems to adaptive and heterogeneous computing.

The OPTICS workshop (W01) aims at discussing the most recent advances in photonic interconnects, covering topics from the device fabrication all the way up to the system-level design. The workshop is of interest to researchers working on silicon photonics and high-performance computing systems. It is comprised of invited talks of the highest caliber in addition to refereed poster presentations.

The Workshop on Emerging Memory Solutions and Applications (W02) provides a forum to discuss trends, challenges, solutions and applications of rapidly evolving memory technologies by gathering researchers and engineers from academia and industry; it also creates a unique network of competence and experts in all aspects of emerging memory solutions and technologies.

The purpose Workshop on New Platforms for Future Cars: Current and Emerging Trends (W03) is to provide an overview of recent trends in industry and academia related to emerging platforms for advanced systems in automotive, as well as to discuss open challenges in order to draft a research roadmap for the EDA community to devise highly efficient systems and systems-of-systems for the future cars.

This DUHDe Workshop (W04) targets “hardware design understanding” through techniques like extraction of high-level properties, reverse engineering or formal methods. This year the Workshop is broadened to integrate people from those communities that are closely related to the given workshop field

The TRUDEVICE Workshop (W05) will provide an environment for researchers from academic and industrial domains who want to discuss recent findings, theories and on-going work on all aspects of hardware security including design, manufacturing, testing, reliability, validation and utilization.

The ESIIT Workshop (W06) focus on software development and maintenance of IoT devices addressing the limited resources and power dissipation of IoT edge nodes in the context of a very long life cycle in an operational IoT network. This covers software synthesis, configurability, safety, security, upgrades, fault recovery, maintenance as well as constraints and opportunities from emerging IoT hardware platforms.

Friday’s Workshops attendees should choose in advance one workshop among W01, W02, W03, W04, W05 and W06. The workshops run from 08:30 until 17:00. The individual timetables for each workshop may vary, and for the detailed version of the workshop programme, visit the workshop webpages.

Registration for the workshops is open from 7:30. Welcome Refreshments are served from 7:30 - 8:30.
