DATE 2018 in Dresden: Highlighting Future and Emerging Technologies and Designing Autonomous Systems

DATE combines the world’s favorite electronic systems design and test conference with an international exhibition for electronic design, automation and test, from system-level hardware and software implementation right down to integrated circuit design.

Out of a total of 766 paper submissions received, a large share (39%) is coming from authors in Europe, 26% of submissions are from America, 34% from Asia, and 1% from the rest of the world. This distribution clearly demonstrates DATE’s international character, global reach, and impact.

For the 21st successive year, DATE has prepared an exciting technical programme. With the help of 335 members of the Technical Program Committee who carried out 3079 reviews (mostly four reviews per submission), finally 185 papers (24%) were selected for regular presentation and 85 additional ones (cumulatively 35%, including all papers) for interactive presentation.

The DATE conference will take place from 19 to 23 March, 2018, at the International Congress Center Dresden, Germany.

On the first day of the DATE event, 4 in-depth technical tutorials on the four main topics of DATE as well as 3 industry hands-on tutorials will be given by leading experts in their respective fields, with technical topics on Emerging Technologies for Computing, Industrial IoT, Reliability from Physics to CAD, and Virtual Prototyping and Low-Power Design, and industrial topics on Building ARM Powered Internet-of-Things, Computer Vision for Automated Driving in MATLAB, and How to Implement Domain-Specific Modeling Languages. Also on Monday, DATE will host the first edition of a new forum, "Advancing Diversity in Electronic Design Automation (DivEDA)", which aims to increase the number and visibility of women and underrepresented minorities in the research community.

On Tuesday, 2 plenary keynote lectures will be given from Prof. Amnon Shashua, CEO & CTO of Mobileye, who will talk about "The Responsibility Sensitive Safety (RSS) Formal Model toward Safety Guarantees for Autonomous Vehicles" followed by Dr. Christopher Voigt, Professor of Biological Engineering at MIT, to talk about "Programming Living Cells: Design automation to map circuits to DNA". On the same day, the Executive Track offers a series of business panels with executive speakers from companies leading the design and automation industry, discussing hot topics.

The registration to DATE 2018 is solely possible via the online registration platform. Please kindly note that everyone who wants to attend the conference, the exhibition or single sessions, must register. The online registration is possible by Wednesday, March 07, 2018 12:00:00 CET. Afterwards, the registration to the conference is only possible on-site at the registration desk and will result in an additional on-site charge of EUR 50.00.

Exhibition Theatre 2018 feat. Exhibition Workshops dedicated to focus topics like autonomous driving, technologies and applications for the digital age of 5G/IoT

In addition to the conference programme during DATE 2018, there will be a presentation theatre as part of the exhibition from Tuesday, March 20 to Thursday, March 23, 2018, with six Exhibition Workshops dedicated to selected topics of major industrial relevance. As special highlight the keynote speakers from the technical conference will further elaborate on their views and visions in presentations complementing their keynote talks and in panel discussions. The theatre is located in the centre of the exhibition hall as well as close to the rooms of the technical conference programme, thus affording easy access for exhibition visitors as well as for conference delegates.

In these six workshops presentations from exhibitors together with contributions from invited speakers including keynote speakers from the technical conference will form an attractive program focussing on topics of major interest for a large community. In addition to the regular conference attendees especially the local industry as well as researchers from leading universities and research institutes will be invited to attend these workshops. As Exhibition as well as the Exhibition Workshops are free of charge for the visitors, this will be a very attractive offer.

With a clear focus for each workshop and the high level speakers from the conference, the Exhibition Workshops will be an attractive format for exhibitors to give their presentations to an audience not limited to the conference attendees.

DATE is the top scientific event in Design, Automation, and Test of microelectronics and embedded systems for the academic and industrial research communities worldwide. It provides a unique networking opportunity, bringing together designers and design automation users, researchers and vendors, as well as specialists in hardware and software design, test and manufacturing of electronic circuits and systems.

Next year, the conference will take place again in the International Congress Center Dresden, Germany, from March 19 to March 23, 2018.

Two Special Days in the programme will focus on areas bringing new challenges to the system design community: Future and Emerging Technologies and Designing Autonomous Systems. Each of the Special Days will have a full programme of keynotes, panels, tutorials, and technical presentations.

The whole Organizing Committee cordially invites you to join us at this occasion and warmly welcomes all paper submissions for standard oral presentation or for interactive presentation, which must be submitted electronically by September 10, 2017.

University Booth at DATE 2018: Call for Demonstrations

This is the Call for Demonstrations for the University Booth at DATE 2018 in Dresden, Germany! The University Booth fosters the transfer of academic work to industry. Prototypes are valuable demonstrators to express and compare the competitiveness of new EDA methodologies and hardware solutions. DATE 2018 features the University Booth in the exhibition hall of the conference venue. Universities and public research institutes are invited to submit their hardware platforms, prototype tools and pre-commercial results for DATE 2018 in Dresden, Germany.

Call for Nominations - EDAA Outstanding Dissertations Award 2017

In recognition of the importance of university research to the advancement of design, automation and test, and to encourage young researchers to work in the field, EDAA has established an award for outstanding Ph.D. dissertations in 4 categories:

  • Topic 1 – New directions in software design and optimization for embedded, cyber-physical and secure systems.
  • Topic 2 – New directions in system-on-chip platforms co-design, novel emerging architectures and system-level management.
  • Topic 3 – New directions in logic, physical design and CAD for analog/mixed-signal, nano-scale and emerging technologies.
  • Topic 4 – New directions in safety, reliability and security-aware hardware design, validation and test for systems and circuits

In each category, one award can be given. Each award consists of a 1000 € prize and certificate. The awards will be presented at the DATE 2018 conference, where the awardees need to be present.

Deadline for nominations is October 31st, 2017, 23:59 CET.

DATE is the top scientific event in Design, Automation, and Test of microelectronics and embedded systems for the academic and industrial research communities worldwide. It provides a unique networking opportunity, bringing together designers and design automation users, researchers and vendors, as well as specialists in hardware and software design, test and manufacturing of electronic circuits and systems.

In 2018, the conference will take place again in Dresden, Germany, after successful editions in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016. The International Congress Center Dresden with its state-of-the-art conference facilities is located on the banks of the river Elbe and provides a spectacular view of the historic city centre. In 2018, the European Design and Automation Association (EDAA) will grant the 16th EDAA Achievement Award.

Scope and Goals

The EDAA Achievement Award shall be given to individuals who made outstanding contributions to the state of the art in electronic design, electronic design automation, testing of electronic systems as well as embedded systems and software, during their career. Candidates can be of any age. In order to be eligible, candidates must have made innovative contributions which had an impact on the way electronic and embedded systems are being designed.

The goal of granting the award is to make the excellent work accomplish by people working within the above scope more widely known and to help publicizing the results more broadly.
