The ENIAC Technology Platform was launched in 2004 to enhance the competitiveness of the European nanoelectronic industry. For this, ENIAC gathered key players to develop a common roadmap, the Strategic Research Agenda (SRA), with the aim of optimising investments in R&D.

To implement the SRA, two entities were created:
- the ENIAC Joint Undertaking (JU), a public-private partnership carrying out R&D projects,
- the Association of European NanoElectronics ActivitieS (AENEAS).

Established as a non-profit association in Nov. 2006, AENEAS federates R&D organisations to continue the activities of the ENIAC Technology Platform and represents its members in the ENIAC JU.

As a result of the ENIAC JU 1st Call, a total R&D volume of about €210 million is foreseen for 8 projects involving 180 participants. The objective of these projects - some of which have already began in early 2009 - is to advance technologically while addressing important societal needs.

The second ENIAC Call for Project Proposals was launched on March 19th, 2009.
